A new exhibition at Lighthouse Arts Newcastle will recognise and acknowledge the incredible females throughout the region.
Stand Out Women, which opens from this weekend, celebrates the pioneers, innovators and influencers who made their mark in the history of Newcastle and the Hunter.

“We’re very excited about Stand Out Women,” Lighthouse Arts’ exhibitions Clare Weeks said.

“The featured artists include Shirley Mort, Robyn Culley, Vicki Macnamara, Helen Fenner, Robin Hundt, Justine MacCormick, Sharran Makin, Jim Williams, Penny Wilson, Aurelia Nowak, Janine Debenham, Amanda Donohue, Amanda Watts, Therese Gabriel Wilkins and Gina McDonald.”
Lighthouse Arts Newcastle is a multi-arts activation of the cottages on Nobbys-Whibayganba Headland that supports the region’s unique creative culture.
It offers writers and artist residencies, an exhibition space and an arts trading store.
The initiative is led by the Hunter Writers’ Centre with support from City of Newcastle, Create NSW and Port Authority of NSW.
Stand Out Women will be open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 4pm, starting 5 August and continuing until 1 October.
