Musical treats to hit the high notes in Hunter

From Beethoven to Kate Ceberano and everything in between, there’s something for everyone in the region over the coming weeks.

Australian Hayden Ensemble – Beethoven’s Seventh

Lake Macquarie will be filled with the sounds of Beethoven and Boccherini this month when the Australian Haydn Ensemble brings together world-class musicians in a tribute performance at Rathmines Theatre, nawayiba.

Formed in 2012, the group’s famed for its historical accuracy and sound, stemming from its commitment to research.

Under the guidance of its artistic director Skye McIntosh, the Australian Haydn Ensemble is expected to entertain and enthral audiences in a special afternoon concert on Saturday 26 August.

The Lake Macquarie event will include an operating bar serving a selection of local beer and wine, as well as a coffee van on the premises from 1pm.

The performance includes Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont, Boccherini’s String Quartet in C minor and Beethoven’s Symphony No.7.

The program includes a 20-minute interval.

Kate Ceberano – My Life Is A Symphony

Legendary Australian songstress Kate Ceberano is like a kid in a candy store.

And, she can’t wait to open the New Annual festival at Newcastle’s Civic Theatre on Friday 22 September.

The artist – who has garnered 11 platinum and eight gold albums, 10 Top 10 records, 15 Top 40 singles, three Countdown accolades and four ARIA Awards – will take to the stage to perform My Life Is A Symphony, kick-starting the 10-day extravaganza.

It’s a breathtaking celebration of her songwriting, featuring her most iconic songs Brave and Pash, and favourites reimagined such as I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Mirror Ballamid the grandeur of the George Ellis Orchestra.

“I am really looking forward to returning there (Newcastle),” she said. “I’ve been coming up since I was 15, when I was with I’m Talking.


Dashville Skyline

A star-studded line-up has been officially unveiled for the upcoming “cosmic country weekender” Dashville Skyline in the Hunter.

Staged at the same location as The Gum Ball, in Lower Belford near Singleton, the event is a popular alternative to its predecessor, providing an amazing experience for those who love laid-back music and family fun.

The ninth edition of Dashville, to take place from Thursday 28 September to Sunday 1 October, not only features more than 30 acts – including famed sister duo Vika & Linda, legendary songwriter and frontman Tim Rogers & The Twin Set, and the ultra-cool Dave Graney & The Coral Snakes – across three stages, but also mouth-watering American-inspired food and bevvies, boutique vintage market stalls, a music history exhibit, animal petting zoo, guitar-and-car show and shine.
