The man behind such hits as Chemical Heart, Just Ace and Lost Control will headline the 2023 Bitter & Twisted Boutique Beer Festival.

Grinspoon frontman Phil Jamieson and ARIA Award-winning Melbourne Ska Orchestra are venturing to Maitland Gaol in November, as the main acts, when the popular event returns to the region’s historic and hallowed venue.

The latter, celebrating 20 years in 2023, will take to the stage on Saturday 4 November.

The ensemble is just coming off the back of an anniversary tour that included a prime slot at Bluesfest in Victoria.

Meanwhile, Jamieson will entertain patrons 24 hours later, on Sunday 5 November.

The enigmatic singer released his first solo album, Somebody Else, last year, after spending more than two decades and seven studio records with Grinspoon.

With Bitter & Twisted sitting in its now traditional springtime slot on the first weekend of November, Maitland City Council team leader events Tori Evans said organisers were expecting another packed house.

“What better way to kick back, relax and enjoy the warm spring sunshine than with a weekend of great tunes and ice-cold brews,” she stated.

“Bitter & Twisted is the coming together of like-minded people to celebrate three things – Aussie music, great food and, of course, some of the best beer around.

“After a rousing return last year, we’re really turning up the noise and are ready to raise the roof at Maitland Gaol.

“Where else in Australia can you enjoy more than 80 craft beers and your favourite tunes in a former maximum security prison?

“In addition to the music and craft beer, there will be a range of food and other stalls and activities across the event site, as well as add ons-that visitors can purchase to make their day even more memorable.

“These include beer trivia sessions, private cell blocks for you and your best mates, and beer and cheese matching sessions, just to name a few.

“Bitter & Twisted is the only way you should ever find yourself behind bars.

“So, we look forward to welcoming all sorts of new and returning inmates.”
