Lake Macquarie to host Australian Haydn Ensemble

SHARE

Lake Macquarie will be filled with the sounds of Beethoven and Boccherini this month when the Australian Haydn Ensemble brings together world-class musicians in a tribute performance at Rathmines Theatre, nawayiba.

Under the guidance of its artistic director Skye McIntosh, the group that is renowned as one of Australia’s leading historically-informed orchestras and chamber music producers, is expected to entertain and enthrall audiences in a special afternoon concert on Saturday 26 August.

“Dramatic, exciting and ravishing” is how the performance is described by organisers.

‘Just as the mass of a giant star increases as it grows smaller, these intimate renditions will surprise you with their intensity’

Formed in 2012, the Australian Haydn Ensemble is famed for its historical accuracy and sound, stemming from its commitment to both research and performance.

Named in tribute of the great Franz “Papa” Haydn, an Austrian composer of the Classical period, the group’s repertoire is principally music of the late baroque and early classical era.

Members of the Australian Haydn Ensemble are expected to enthral audiences at its 26 August performance.

The group is lauded for performing music with passion and great energy, enjoying invitations from several Australian events including the Adelaide Festival, the Canberra International Music Festival, the Melbourne Festival, Festival By the Sea Mornington Peninsula Festival and the Organs of the Ballarat Goldfield’s Festival to name a few.

The Lake Macquarie soiree will include an operating bar serving a selection of local beer and wine, as well as a coffee van on the premises from 1pm.

The performance includes Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont, Boccherini’s String Quartet in C minor, and Beethoven’s Symphony No.7

The program includes a 20-minute interval.
