Arts extravaganza EASEL’D to brighten Newcastle CBD

SHARE

A celebration of Newcastle’s thriving visual art community is set to brighten the CBD next month.

EASEL’D will feature more than 100 artists taking to the streets, bringing broad brushstrokes of brilliance to portable walls, businesses and outdoor spaces throughout September.

It’ll also include “live” painting, residencies, activations, workshops and walking trails on its jam-packed program.

From the West End to Newcastle Beach, EASEL’D will showcase 40 curated artists as well as 60 community and amateur creatives in a variety of locations.

Director Jacinta Fintan said everyone was looking forward to the month-long event.

“When our artists thrive, our city thrives,” she explained.

“EASEL’D is based on the idea that art can and does exist everywhere in our CBD – including shops, cafes, bars, parks and public spaces.

“So, it’s an opportunity for people to meet artists, watch them work, explore residency walking trails to discover new businesses, listen to our Podcast Series by Delia Bell and attend free art workshops.

“Best of all, every event is free.”

EASEL’D highlights include:

  • Artist Residency Walking Trails around the CBD on Saturday 2, 9, 16 and 23 September – featuring 22 artists and 21 shops, cafes, bars and hotels
  • Live Paint Jam @ Civic Park featuring 20 artists painting on portable walls, noon-4pm on Saturday 30 September
  • Live Paint Jam @ Devonshire Street from 10.30am on Sunday 1 October with Inari and Debbies Grahl as part of a collaboration with New Annual and West Best Bloc Fest
  • Free community art workshops by Dino Consalvo, Lilly Belle, Jen Denzin and Natalie Sherring
  • Artist talk by KEOB @ Civic Theatre outdoor bar, 3.30pm on Saturday 30 September

EASEL’D is presented by The Wall Station and supported by the City of Newcastle’s Special Business Rate (SBR) grant funding.
