FlyPelican joins Newcastle Airport take off plan

SHARE

FlyPelican is joining the race to get Newcastle Airport “international ready”.

By adding a new regional NSW destination to its agenda, the local airline is helping the Williamtown address cement its reputation as a connection hub, primed for overseas travellers.

The service will connect Newcastle to Narrabri, furthering opportunities for regional tourism.

Flights will operate initially twice a week, beginning from 25 August.

FlyPelican CEO Henry Murcott says there is strong demand for a service to connect essential workers from both destinations.

“We’re thrilled to introduce this new service, a direct reflection of the increasing demand and our dedication to serve regional communities,” he said.

“It will provide convenient travel for FIFO workers, the agricultural sector, and Hunter New England Health professionals.”

The flights, he added, would allow more convenient through-travel.

“The introduction of this route allows greater opportunity for people in the west to fly to Newcastle Airport and connect seamlessly onward to other destinations,” he explained.

Newcastle Airport’s executive general manager of aviation business development and freight Andrew Warrender welcomed the new addition to FlyPelican’s route map.

“Connecting Narrabri to Newcastle is a great example of how FlyPelican continues to keep regional communities connected,” he said.

“Residents of Narrabri can now enjoy swift access to Newcastle’s vibrant culture, beautiful beaches, and thriving business scene. Similarly, Novocastrians can explore the unique offerings of Narrabri, including its rich agricultural heritage and scenic beauty.”

The inaugural fight is scheduled to leave Newcastle at 1.15pm, arriving in Narrabri one hour later.

The return service will leave Narrabri the following Monday at 8.15am, arriving in Newcastle at 9.15am.

FlyPelican will offer Narrabri passengers an onward connection to Canberra and Sydney and will automatically check through luggage to the next aircraft.

FlyPelican is a proud Newcastle Based, Australian owned and operated airline, formed by former Aeropelican staff.

The airline also utilises former Aeropelican aircraft.

The Narrabri to Newcastle service will initially operate twice a week, providing essential connectivity for both business and leisure travellers.

The additional flights form part of an extensive plan to upgrade Newcastle Airport.

Within the next 13 years, Newcastle Airport is expected to undertake numerous alterations.

The 2036 Newcastle Airport Vision lists airfield, terminal, transport and aviation facilities that will need to be completed in order to successfully cater to the expected passenger numbers.

This includes;

  • terminal transformation to offer facilities expanded over two levels
  • additional food, beverage and retail businesses
  • international services implemented into the facilities
  • aerobridges from the upper level
  • major modifications to integrate ground transport and road access
  • creation of a pedestrian plaza
  • additional car parking areas and offerings
  • creation of a ‘campus’ style business precinct.
