Maitland is proving itself to be a hotbed for investors and homeowners, named the 2022/23 fastest growing regional area in NSW – yet again.

More than 1,180 development applications (DAs) were granted by Maitland City Council during the financial year, resulting in 1,147 new housing lots.

On average, DAs took just 27 days to approve – one of the fastest in NSW.

There were also more than $85 million of subdivision works by developers and council approval of subdivision that led to the release of more than 880 new land plots.

At present there are an additional 800 lots under construction and 1,100 being prepared for construction, as well as 2,500 lots seeking DA approval.

“These figures and pipeline of future projects underscore the confidence felt in Maitland’s potential for sustained growth and economic prosperity,” says Maitland City Council general manager Jeff Smith.

“We continue to be the fastest growing regional area in the state, which indicates interest from investors and homeowners who recognise Maitland’s potential as a great place to live.

“We’re committed to maintaining the balance between progress and preserving the character of our city through great development outcomes.

“This includes significant investment in local infrastructure to support forecasted growth, through our Capital Works Program.”

Maitland 2023/24 Works Program includes $19.7 million in major roadworks construction, $9 million in road rehabilitation and resurfacing, and $11.4 million and $29 million in building and recreation works.
